I presented at the California Association of Teachers of English (CATE) pre-conference hosted by the California Writing Project at the beginning of March. I have a really difficult time talking about my practice as a teacher because so much of my practice is mine. I know that it won't work for everyone, and I know that self-awareness runs counter to the ego that drives so many people who have something to say or sell about education. I don't have answers, and even when I start to work towards answers, I feel like I only formulate more questions. That's with everything I do, but especially with teaching. So, I didn't present answers, but I presented a journey that I went on last year with my IBY2 students and their writing journey.
The slideshow is here. The most interesting part, I think, is hearing students talk about their learning experiences in class with candor.
I'm really proud of this work and I hope, if you click through, you find some inspiration.
